Smothered Cabbage with Apples
- 2-3 fresh apples or pears or a combination of both rough chopped, peeling optional
- 2 medium onions, finely chopped
- 1 lb. ham pieces
- 2 tbl. bacon fat
- 1 small-medium cabbage head, roughly chopped
- 1/4 cup vinegar, fruit flavored such as pear
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. pepper or to taste
- Sauté fruit onions and ham pieces in bacon fat for about 3-4 minutes
- Add cabbage, vinegar, brown sugar and pepper
- Stir to combine and cook until cabbage is tender, as you like it.
